This Beginner Yoga Series is truly for the beginner to learn yoga with time spent each class to review and instruct certain postures in detail as well as a review of the previous week. Each class builds the previous. In this series students will learn:

  • Basic breathing techniques

  • Names and alignment of fundamental postures

  • Classical Sun Salutation

  • Sun Salutation A

  • Sun Salutation B

  • Modifications appropriate for their personal practice.

There is no class on October 23 or November 27.

What Can I Expect?

We recommend everyone coming with no expectations or goals and to simply experience the practice. This yoga class is geared towards beginners where one class builds upon the next focusing on the basic postures of yoga and transitions. However, in terms of format the class structure is as follows:

  • Each class starts with about a ten-minute review of the poses or questions from the last class.

  • The rest of the class will run as a traditional yoga class with certain postures being broken down step by step during class.

  • Students are encouraged to ask questions during class. It does make the yoga class less meditative than a traditional class because we are talking more (and your neighbors too). However, we wanted to create an environment so people can really ask– what the heck am I supposed to be doing. For a less chatty class, we encourage attending one of our other classes or scheduling private lessons.

  • Students will learn how to use props to enhance their practice.

  • Participants will learn how to adapt postures to their ability and bodies.
