The 200 hour Yoga Alliance approved program is divided into two modules. Module one focuses on personal yoga practice development, philosophy and history, mindfulness, breathwork, and yoga postures. The module is approximately 120 hours and includes in-person instruction and personal study. Students will learn how to make postures accessible for all abilities and ages. What can I expect?

Students can expect a mix of lecture, practice, and experiential learning. Most students are surprised that we do not practice yoga asanas (yoga postures) as much as they were expecting. Participants are exposed to a wide array of yoga practices to make yoga accessible such as: restorative yoga, yin yoga, gentle yoga, mindful yoga, prenatal yoga, chair yoga, hatha yoga, with a limited amount of vinyasa or power yoga. We focus on alignment of the postures based on different body and energy types. With a heavy focus on mindfulness and stress reduction, students will be exposed to complementary techniques to bring into their classes and own personal practice such as essential oils, singing bowls, yoga nidra, and mindfulness.

In terms of the group and format, students should expect a very small group setting compared to other teacher trainings. There are breaks provided in each session and a lot of time to practice under the supervision of a senior yoga teacher. While most of the program happens during the week-long immersion, there are readings and light assignments to complete during the breaks. Additionally, students will need to teach one recorded class prior to receiving their certificate.

What’s Included in the Yoga Training Program

  • Essential oil starter kit and wholesale discounts.
  • Yoga teacher training manual.
  • Online access to our course.
  • Email support between the course dates.
  • Complimentary access to Mindful Yoga Chicago general classes located at the park district.

What’s Not Included in the Yoga Course

  • This is the first module of the two required to complete our Yoga Certification Program. While this is a part of a Yoga Alliance training module both modules will need to be completed before receiving the Registered Yoga Instructor designation (RYT) through Yoga Alliance.
  • Your books. This course requires 3 books which should be less than $50 if you purchase an online version or used books.
  • Props and supplies. To make yoga accessible, we use a lot of props. We will have them at our training location but for your own self-practice, participants are encouraged to purchase their own.
  • Lodging costs. As most of the program occurs in the one-week immersion, we may have participants coming from out of Chicago. They are responsible for their own food and lodging.

Frequently Asked Questions

Where is the training located?

The training is located in the Uptown neighborhood in Chicago. If the training has less than 5 people it will be located in the instructor’s home studio. For 5 to 12 participants, it will be located at another location in Uptown conveniently located near public transportation.

Why is the program divided into two modules?

We found that students had different needs, some were more interested in a personal yoga journey and had no desire to teach, others were looking to teach yoga as a career change, while others were teaching yoga already without any formal training. We found dividing the program into two modules not only made the program for flexible and accessible from a tuition perspective but also allowed the program to meet the needs of the different students we had.

What should I do if I want to get the Yoga Alliance designation?

To receive the Yoga Alliance designation you must complete all complete Module Two, pass all assignments, and meet the attendance requirements.

Do I need to take both modules before teaching?

Upon completion of the first module, students will have foundational knowledge to teach yoga classes to family or friends. However, if looking to teach as a profession, it will be a challenge to find a position without completing both modules. For people in complementary professions, it may be enough to add them to their current list of offerings. There will be a gap in knowledge, specifically when it comes to sequencing and detailed anatomy without completing Module 2. This program is ideal for those looking to deepen their personal practice and learn the basics of sharing yoga with others.

How do payment plans work?

Participants must place a $499 non-refundable deposit with the remaining payments divided into 3 additional payments. Each remaining pay will include a $25 adminstrative fee and payments will be auto drafted from the account on file. All  payments must be collected prior to the completion of the immersion week.
